is seeking a highly motivated individual to support the
manufacturing maturation of ceramic matrix composite (CMC) turbine
components. CMCs are an enabling material that increases the
temperature capability of jet engine components. Through successful
development and application of these materials, P&W will
deliver engines that are more fuel efficient, lighter weight and
more durable for commercial and military applications. This
position will be located in Carlsbad, CA.What You Will Do
- Lead process development of overall CMC manufacturing, with
occasional support of preforming ceramic fibers. This may include
tool design, ply cutting, laminating, forming, curing and trimming
preforms for turbine component applications.
- Lead the strategy for comprehensive data collection and
analysis from this process that will support robust process
development and understanding as part of the digital thread for
CMCs. This includes establishing methods for data collection, data
analysis and data visualization to enable statistical process
control (SPC)
- Working closely with manufacturing and engineering integrated
teams to develop new processes and implement new designs into
production and to eliminate quality turn backs, escapes, and reduce
overall product costs.
- Play an active role in the Integrated Product Team process for
CMC turbine components
- Provide focused & effective leadership in eliminating
EH&S/Ergonomics/Human Factors risks and addressing quality
issues as processes transition into production.
- Create and implement strategies for automation of the
preforming process.
- Identify & implement shop floor process optimization, control
methods, and work instructions (including specifications,
engineering changes, QAD/process control, and tooling
definition/requirements.)
- Establish metrics for the process including yield, cost, cycle
time, capacity, safety, delivery etc. Monitor outcomes to identify
and implement improvement opportunities
- Lead the initiative to advance the CMC Manufacturing Readiness
Level (MRL) and support hardware production for Technology
Readiness Level (TRL) demonstration
- Conduct root cause investigations as required and implement
corrective actions
- Training of engineers and technicians
- Monitor and improve OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness)
through implementation of Total Productive Maintenance (TPM)
practices
- Identify, investigate and implement new technology to address
business goals
- Support a 24/7 operation as requiredQualifications You Must
Have
- Bachelor's degree required
- 8+ years experience in Engineering or 5 + years with an advance
degree
- Must be a U.S. Citizen. This position may require access to
systems/tools that are restricted to individuals who possess US
citizenship.Qualifications We Prefer
- Experience with polymer, metal or ceramic matrix
composites
- A working-knowledge of quality and process improvement tools
such as Six Sigma and LEAN
- Basic proficiency in CAD or solid modeling software
- Knowledge and effective practice of Environmental, Health and
Safety requirements
- Knowledge and effective practice of aerospace quality practices

Employees who are working in Onsite roles will work primarily
onsite. This includes all production and maintenance workers, as
they are essential to the development of our engines.Candidates

the recruiting process. For onsite and hybrid roles, commuting to
and from the assigned site is the employee's personal
responsibility.The salary range for this role is 105,000 USD -
221,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate
representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several
factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the
role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work
experience, location, education/training, and key skills.Hired
